Narrow Escape in Russia

The Tragic Crossing of the Berezina

Diorama

Diorama by Scenic Effects

The series of photos show an interpretation in diorama form of the crossing of the Berezina at one of the two bridges constructed using wood from buildings in nearby villages. Using Old Glory, Imperial, and battle Honours 15mm figures and Scenic Effects terrain and structures, Rick Schuldt's creation displays the desperate mob of stragglers pushing across a bridge while a few remaining organized battalions in Victor's rear guard hold back the Russians.

Below, a Victor Adams lithograph of done in the mid-19th century show a more contemporary view of the crossing of the Berezina on the second day (Nov. 29, 1812). Lithograph reproduced with permission of Anne S.K. Brown Military Collection, Brown University Library.
