Review of Dixon Miniatures 25mm NEW American Revolution Range
Prices at time of writing 65p, horses 95p. Infantry - can be used as American or British. I shall list the figure, comment and draw some of them not to scare. AR1 Officer - raised sword. The pose looks as if it is taken from a painting of the time. Excellent modeling and clean casting on all these figures. AR2 Drummer - standing - slung drum. Tricorne perched on his head - cheeky drummer boy attitude. Long knife at his left side. AR3 Infantry advancing - fixed bayonet (half gaiters). Half gaiters are also called "spatter dashes." All Ronald Spencer Smitb's old 30mm plashes had 'em. Determined snarl on this chap's face - no expression at all on dear old SS's of course. AR4 Infantry ramming musket (half gaiters). Ribbed hose and ch~bbed hdr - shoudng. Remember, all tbese figures hve a number of different head variants. AR5 Infantry lunging forward - fixed bayonet. A gaunt looking gent this. Looks campaign hardened. Infantry "Valley Forge" types. Really scruffy! AR6 Standing firing, long coat A good aiming position, more excellent modeling. AR7 Ramming musket. Tatty britches and floppy hose. Shoes wrapped in rags. Good pose. AR8 Biting cartridg. Musket held at the point of balance in the left hand. AR9 Marching - shouldered musket. Hungry looking fellow in a round farm hat, no hose and rags wrapped round his shoes, plodding grimly on. AR10 Advancing - leveled musket and fixed bayonet. Long trews, knee out of one leg. In a good low line for a thrust! Also, released end of March, 10 more of these, including Ensign, fifer, etc. Aside: Army packs and lots of equipment advertised - Wild West wagons, Samurai wagons, sets and complement (e.g. stage coach and horses plus 18 figures = "Noon Stage-). Samurai palisades (see end of "Kagemusha" by Akira Kurosawa where dozens of the real thing were used). Medieval Samurai battles head on to "modern" muskets. Samurai army, AP1, 12th - 16th Century 33 cav 100 inf, 60 peasants = £ 138. I've reviewed a lot of Dixon's Samurai in the past for "Slingshot and they're great! More Reviews:
