20mm WWII Items

Vehicles and Soldiers

Review by Len Brewer

The following products are available from "THE ELITE GROUP 2625 FOREST GLEN TRAIL, RIVERWOODS, ILLINOIS 60015". Since we are getting involved in the World War II action, here is a brief review of some very nice 20mm vehicles from " BRITANNIA MINIATURES".

RVM - 1 GERMAN STAFF CAR WITH DRIVER AND TWO PASSENGERS $11.95.

This is a resin and metal kit that fits together very well. There is a one piece frame that you glue to the resin body. Then put the wheels on, and you're finished. There is very good detail on this model. The front windshield is down on the hood, between the passengers and the driver is a German sub-machine gun and a canvas bag. Behind the two Generals are a German helmet and some other items. This car fits in very well with the other lines. All German command should have something like this.

RVM - 26 GERMAN SKDFZ 250/8 WITH TWO CREW (75MM GUN) $18.95.

This is another small halftracks that is needed for my German Recon Battalion. This resin and metal kit goes together very good. All of the pieces fits together very good. There is no flash on the metal pieces and no extra resin. The detail is very good. The only problem that I had was that with this kit, the two crewman is very cramped on the inside if the halftracks.

RVM - 27 GERMAN SKDFZ 250/9 WITH COMMAND TURRET $18.95.

Another part of the recon battalion. This halftracks like the others had no flash or extra resin on any of the pieces. The turret is open in the back and the command figure that is supplied fits in very good. The turret can be glued in place or left alone in which case, you can rotate it.

RVM - 14 GERMAN TIGER 1, LATE PRODUCTION MODEL $22.95.

A beautiful model. This tank has battle damage already. The tank has extra tracks on the lower hull and has zimmerit coating on the hull and turret sides. There is a lot of additional pieces on the kit. Once again everything fits together very good. This is another kit that needs to be out on the table. All of the above kits will go along with the other vehicles in the other lines of figures. These kits goes together so good that even our esteem editor Hal, can put them together with no trouble.

AMP - 1 BRITISH ASSAULT LANDING CRAFT WITH THREE CREW $21.95.

A very useful item for the Pacific and Atlantic landings. This is another resin and metal kit. The craft is 7" long and 2" wide. There is a driver, machine gunner and another figure that is kneeling. As you can expect there is no flash or extra resin on anything involved. This does fit in with the Higgins boat and a couple that Hal gave me from a firm in Canada. You can get a company of infantry or a jeep or small truck inside it.

HIGGINS BOAT WITH THREE CREW $24.95.

I had no number on this one. I found it on the shelf at the local hobby store ( THE GAME ROOM 1293 PEORIA STREET WASHINGTON ILL. 61571 ). This is the US version of a landing craft. This is 5 3/4" long and 2 1/4" wide. The two figures in the back have 30 caliber machine guns pointing skyward to ward off any planes. The detail is very good and it fits in with other models that are available.

AIRFIX LCM MARK III AND SHERMAN MARK II $8.05.

Since Hal got me started on the Pacific campaign, I have been hunting landing crafts. This is a 1:72 scale plastic kit. The model is 7 5/8" long and 2 3/16 wide. The model goes together very easy. You do have to watch out because there are some very small pieces involved. This kit fits in the other models that was reviewed. The SHERMAN kit is a little small in my thinking. Care must be used in putting this kit together. Since I have three of these for my campaign, they will be fine. I got my kit from "HAMMER'S HOBBIES 1959 EAST PERSHING ROAD, DECATUR ILL. 62521. " The model can also be ordered from the SQUADRON MAIL ORDER 1115 CROMLEY DRIVE, CARROLLTON, TEXAS 75011-5010.
