Poland 1939 Campaign

Polish Player

By Mick Huskey

You are to defend the military transit facility of Westerplatte located on a peninsula within the confines of the Free City of Danzig. The following comprises the garrision of Westerplatte:

    1 HQ Stand
    2 Inf Command Stands
    12 Rifle Stands
    3 HMG Stands
    4 LMG Stands
    3 Mortar Stands
    2 Bofors 37mm AT Guns
    1 75mm Field Gun

The defenses:

1. All military buildings have specially reinforced basements secretly constructed to protect occupants from virtually the heaviest bombardments. All have special firing points for MGs constructed in basement.

2. Barbwire has been strung in various parts of the complex.

3. There is a hidden bunker unknown to Germans.

4. The players are also allowed up to 20" of trench to be secretly placed wherever they want within the facilities. This may be broken up into any size increments of trench players decide. Mark on the sketch map but Germans will not know until they spot these.

5. The barbwire around the bunker also is surrounded by hidden punjistake defenses. When Germans reach these they must stop immediately and each stand rolls 2 D6 - eliminated if a 2 is rolled.

6. Mortar crews have preranged virtually any part of the facilities and thus are capable of indirect fire with increased accuracy. +1 to firing

Your mission:

Polish High Command in Warsaw expects the garrision to hold at all costs the Westerplatte. Danzig is earmarked to be relieved by a Polish couterattack within the first day of the outbreak of war.

Assessment of enemy strength: Little is known about ground forces available to the Germans except that the local ss organization has raised and trained a large infantry force amongst Nazi party membership. Also the German security police have large formations well equipped for infantry combat. Regular troops may also be brought up for the expected attack. The German battleship Schleswig-Holstein is anchored within the German port and will no doubt provide artillery support.

Due to breaking the German security codes, the attack is now expected to commence by Sept. 1st at the latest. All Polish units are to be on highest alert.
