TEXAS-ANGLO TACTICAL ALLIANCE (TATA)
BRIEFING
You are in the lead elements of a force pursuing a retreating Prussian-Ottornan Empire army, heading east. The POE forces will attempt to delay your movement through the town of Wadi Falafel. Your windwagon captains will not take their wagons past the western half of the table, due to excessively rough terrain.
Intelligence reports that a field piece is located in a prepared position on the east side of town; you do not know what kind of, or how much, ammunition it may have available - HE, canister, or even gas. Also, a unit with a heavy machine gun is reported hidden near the center of town.
Some of your units may maneuver off-table and enter from the sides after the first turn; on a 1D6 roll of "1", the unit will not enter yet, but must wait until the next turn. Indicate which unit(s), and where, on the map. All other units, including all windwagons, must enter on turn one or later from the western end indicate in advance if any unit will enter later than turn one.
Your mission is to advance through the town, leaving no enemy behind you when you exit the
eastern end of the table.
Specific goals, in no particular order, might be:
- exit as many of your men as possible off of the eastern edge
- kill all enemy soldiers or force them from the Wadi Falafel area with minimal losses to your own men
- apture or destroy the field piece before the enemy can evacuate it or use it against our columns
- capture or destroy the HMG
- capture prisoners for interrogation.
YOU WILL WIN if by the end of the gaming time, you have exited at least 10 of your figures
from the eastern end of the table, and all enemy figures are killed, captured, or have exited. YOU MAY WIN under other conditions, if so declared by the gamemaster.
Prussian-Ottoman Empire (POE) Briefing
You are part of a rear guard force, defending against a Texas-Anglo Tactical Alliance advance. A delaying action will be fought here at Wadi Falafel. Your intention is to inflict as many casualties as possible on the enemy to slow their pursuit.
Plot your units' hidden positions on the map provided. One of the heavy machine gun units must be within 12" of the center of the table. When a unit moves, fires, or is within spotting range, it must be revealed for the remainder of the game. Your units may intentionally move off the eastern end of the table, but may not return.
THE ARTILLERY PIECE IS A DUMMY; it is only on the table to deceive the TATA players;
you may still position other units in that area; indicate them on the map; the redoubt is actually
there and serves as cover from the front. When the Allies have a unit in sighting range of the
dummy gun, it will be removed from the table; another unit that may actually be there will be
revealed. Of course, the gun may not fire, but DON'T LET THE ALLIED PLAYERS KNOW THAT THE GUN IS NOT REALLY THERE.
Your mission is to prevent the enemy from exiting off the east end of the table. It will be useful if you can also have some surviving strength to continue the delaying action "down the road", but the delay and destruction of the enemy force is THE mission.
Specific goals, in no particular order, might be:
- inflict as many casualties as possible on the enemy
- get the HMG's off. This means all figures of the HMG unit.
- escape with at least three of your figures (to give reports of the action)
- preserve your army by getting more than three of your figures off if possible, but do not deplete your delaying force for the current action too much
YOU WILL WIN if by the end of the gaming time, no more than five enemy figures have exited
the eastern end of the table. YOU MAY WIN under other conditions, if so declared by the
gamemaster.
