Top left: The Allied commanders line up for the pre-stoush 'Bataille Briefing' from Elan author and Umpire Phillip Jones (now known as 'Spanky' for affecting upper-class mannerisms with a riding crop). Looking pensively at the French hordes opposite are L-R - Simon Hughes, Scott Driscoll (Allied 2IC), Peter Braham (partially obscured), Ken Lee, Phillip Jones (waving the riding crop), Mark Newman, John Colwell and hiding trying to hide up the back Brad 'Count Schwanzeberg' Smith (Allied CinC). Top right: The smiling faces of some of the French commanders (anticipating an early French victory?) from L-R - Todd Lupica, , Adam Stone (French 2IC), Jason Bury , Ian 'Napoleon' Turton (French CinC) and Brett 'Hamlet' Kvisle (Danish division!). Doug Parrish (not pictured) Next down: The start of the French flank march with Lancers and horse artillery in the van, Hussars and infantry following close behind. Next down left: The British Guards man La Haye Sainte. They had a very boring time of it as until the final moves of the game no French came within cooee. Next down right: Waiting on the other side of the river having only just come on with their own flank march are John Colwell's Russians. They managed to deploy their artillery in the nick of time before the French lancers came at them. Bottom right: Umpire Jones helpfully points out the limit of the French start line (and something nasty) in the woods opposite Frischermont. I can hear Mark Newman calling for reinforcements before the first dice rolled! Bottom left: Ken Lee's British artillery and Rocket Troop, screened by Rifles, set up at the crucial junction in the Allied line just to the right of Papelotte.
