Hereros and Kaisers

Captain Frankes attack on the Herero position at Omaruru on 4 February 1904. Portion of a watercolor by C. Becker. Note the different uniforms worn by the Force, not noted in the text. The figure on the right is in grey cords, while Capt. Frankes is in almost British colored khaki and the lefthand figure is in yellow khaki with a black trousers. Also note that the slouch hats have almost a blue tint to them.

In Potsdam, Kaiser Wilhelm II bids farwell to the reinforcements of the Imperial Protective Force bound for South West Africa on 15 June 1894. Portion of a watercolor by C. Becker. In the background, next to the Kaiser is a soldier in a cap with black peak while most of the other ranks and Officers are in slouch hats, once again with a blue tint. The sand grey uniforms are not quite as dark in the original painting.
