Book Review

by Richard Brooks

8 full color plates printed by Uniformology Box 81, Weatherford, TX 76086. I bought my copy from On Military Matters, 609466-2329 for $15.00. The booklet consists of with color cover and 8 color plates all on card stock. Interspersed between the color plates is a tracing like paper. There is no text except for identifying uniforms type, one or two words.

If you are interested in German Colonial troops and do not have a copy of Die Deutschen Schutztruppen in Afrika, printed by LTR Verlag GMBH Stamberg 1989 than this is for you. However, I would caution you to take care as the colors here are not as true as the copy I have of Die Deutschen Schutztruppen in Afrika.

For example, in Die Deutschen Schutztruppen in Afrika, the uniform colors are consistant blue-grey throughout, in this booklet the uniforms start on one page in a light to medium grey and the following pages has them in light green. The leggings of the Sudanese are supposed to be blue but are copied as a greenishblue. In a painting I have seen of field uniforms, containing cavalry/mounted infantry, they are depicted as being almost a corduroy like material with the ribs of alternating colors-light grey and light blue.

I plan on writing Uniformology to question their color copying. More later.
