Otto von Flaschmann
Goes Forth
Part I

Adriatic 1915
An Austrian Lake?

by Mathew Sparkes

Gauntlet No.9 sees the beginnings of Mathew Sparkes` romping Great War role-play. It promises to be a real roller-coaster taking you the player, in the unlikely guise of Otto von Flaschmann, from the blue seas of the Adriatic to the backwaters of the Danube. Then it`s uppitty up up, soaring above the clouds in a canvas bag held together by wire, and down again into the mud and ice of the trenches of the Alps or maybe Galicia. Who knows where it will all lead ? Espionage, intrigue and favours at court...take part or simply watch as it all unfolds in the coming issues. Why not get into the spirit of the thing yourself and send in an equally implausible episode in Otto`s perhaps not so glorious career.

Your current posting to the sunny Adriatic, is down to the favours of Baroness Von Stromput. As ever gallant, you managed to avoid an embarassing scene with her husband upon his premature return from a rain sodden hunting trip, by jumping out of the 2nd floor window in just your riding boots. The scars from that damned rose bush still itch in damp weather.

Luckily Uncle 'Willie' never got to hear of this, as ever since you were a child he has punished indiscretions which may have led to disgracing the family name quite severely.

But as the sun goes down over the twin peaks of the Montenegro coast-line you can dream of the softness of Grand Countess cousin Judit, who unfortunately has a passion for flyer types....Bah !
