Scale Specialties

Ship Names

Reviewed by Craig Martelle

Scale Specialties sent me one of their Ship's Names accessory for naval gaming. These sheets list every single ship, by class, who's flag they operated under, and they're on a self adhesive paper. This ensures that the naval gamer will have proper names on his ships and that he can readily identify each ship on the table (say for example he has seven LSTs conducting a landing in Europe. He can readily use the proper number for ships operating in Europe, then keep track of which of the seven took a hit, or which has what embarked). These sheets are well-worth the price alone in research (sliding scale depending on number of sheets, approx. $3 a sheet), but being able to affix them to the bottom of your ships is an added bonus. These ship's names sheets are available for the Age of Sail, ACW, WWI, and WWII. The World War II listing contains 23 separate packs totalling an astounding 45 sheets of ship names!

Scale Specialties also sent along a copy of their catalogue. That by itself is worth the price of admission. It is very well laid out with a logical table of contents and all kinds of material with a little for everybody. All in all a very nice catalogue. I'm glad I received it as they sell 1/300th scale ground & air and they also sell every ship imagineable from 1/6000th scale naval battles (the 1904-1905 Russo-Japanese campaign) to 1/600th scale riverine (ACW Ironclads). They have everything else in between (including 15mm ACW by Peter Pig & all different scales of airplanes) so definitely give them a call or e-mail and get their catalogue (comes 3-hole punched for inclusion in a binder). Also, if you join their mailing list, they'll send you a

10% coupon off a month for a whole year. e-mail them at sms@ss-sms.com or write, Scale Specialties, P.O. Box 1117, Fullerton, CA, 92632, or phone (714) 535-7486.
