Miscellaneous

Mauser Military Rifles of the World, by Robert W. D. Ball, pub. Krause Publications, Iola, WI. 54990, USA, 264 pp. 32 colour pages with 4-6 photographs on each, each page has at least 3 b/w photographs, I'm not really up on weapons but I feel that with this book this void has been bridged, at least as far as Mauser rifles goes, the countries covered that could interest members are; Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Peru, Spain, Uruguay and Venezuela, if you need to know what types were used then this is the book, there are some 6 photographs from the Chaco War included too, a very good reference book.

American Armoured Cars, by A. J. Clemens, pub. Grenadier Books, California 1969, 72 pp., now I bought this as it has 34 pages on AFV's pre WWII, 2 pages are on the Mexican Border conflict of 1916, while the remainder could be useful for some of the so-called Banana Wars that occurred between the wars, also I don't have too much data on this topic.

Last but not least I received a copy of "The Journal" , issue No.24, published by the Society of Twentieth Century Wargamers, this has four articles on Latin America, three are scenarios for wargames the other is on the Cuban Army, the 1st is Haiti 1994, by Geoff Barker based on a semi-fictional campaign by the U.S. to invade this republic, the 2nd is Caribbean Crisis, a Nicaraguan/Venezuelan war for the island of San Andres circa 1995, the 3rd is The Bay of Pigs Invasion - A Wargamers Guide, Part One, by Brian Cunniffe, 2 ˝ pages of data, and the last one that I found of interest was Have T-62, Will Travel, by Neil McDougal, 3 ˝ pages stating why a modern Cuban wargames army can be an extremely versatile asset, in regards to the various campaigns that it has seen in Africa and Latin America, while also implying that without fiscal aid from the U.S.S.R. these troops and equipment could be hired to unstable governments, in say Africa?, as a way to obtain extra foreign currency, an interesting thought.

I would like to thank all of these people for their help in obtaining these books and magazines that I have mentioned in the proceeding pages, my best wishes and thanks go to Paul V. Walsh, Col. R. Moreira de Miranda, Richard Brooks, Alberto del Pino Menck, Jorge Ortiz Sotelo, C. H. Bogart, Andrew Preziosi, David Spencer, Ron Field, Ed Milligan, José L. Meige, Gareth Simon, René Chartrand and my son James Hooker (birthday present).

Without their help this list would be quite small.
