Help Make Cold Wars
Another Successful MiniCon

by Dick Bryant

Michael Montemareno and his staff of volunteers did themselves proud in theirfirstattemptat runninga convention. They had the problem of living up to the previous examples given by Pat Condray and succeeded admirably.

There were over 700 paid attendees for 105 games plus two Ancient Tourneys. 39 dealers were represented as well as a very active flea market.

Phil Barker was brought over for the Trade Wars Ancient Tourney but as would have been expected, helped out in both thatand in the NASAMW Tourneys. I understand that quite a few garners played in both Ancient Tourneys.

The only negative note was that for a period of time there was no direct access between the gaming area and the dealers due to a wedding reception taking place in between. I'm sure that the Bride and Groom won't forget their wedding in the midst of several battlefields. That episode was due to the Hotel reneging on promises made by its representative. Something like that seems to happen at every interface the hobby has with the business world.

The smoke free and food free gaming area was a real pleasure to game in and most games were well attended. The Tarawa Atoll game put on by GHQ using their new terrain construction set won best demonstration of quality terrain, and award given by The Courier.

Peter Gilder was here to help Connoisseur introduce new additions to his 25mm ACW line, while DaveAllsop introduced his new Old Glory 25mm ACW (is there a resurgence of 25mm ACW gaming or what?) and his 20mm MLR WWII figures. Wargames also showed some new Dixon 25mm ACW figures!
