English and French Orders of Battle

by Chris Parker

THE ENGLISH

August 23, 1346: To the Earl of North Hampton: My Lord you are ordered to take your force which is the Van of the Army and sieze the large hill near the small town of Crecy. The main English Army is three hours behind you (12 turns). You have forced the bridge overtheSomme River against light resistance and have pressed on to Crecy. Your scouts report a large force of French gathered there, blocking your path and defending the town.

You receive word from the King to sieze the hill and town at whatever costs; his army iscoming upfast but isstretched out for miles on the roads and hotly pressed by the French Army. You have about 3600 men and horse. To achieve a crushing victory you must drive all the French from the field, hold the town and the hill. A marginal victory is achieved if you accomplish any one of these tasks. You have twelve turns. God Speed.

NOTE: Due to skirmishing at the bridge all of your archers have depleted ammunition. Each unit has four flights for this battle.

THE FRENCH

August 21, 1346: Lord Darth: Phillip, the King of France, has ordered you to raise up the local troops and take a stand just north of the Somme River near the little town of Crecy. He has sent you a small force of Knights and crossbows but expects you to supply the bulk of the force yourself.

August 23, 1346: In a matter of days you have gathered together a force of about 4500 men and horse. You have hastily occupied the town of Crecy and have taken a stand on the large open hilly plain next to it. Your men are well rested and supplied; you feel confident of victory.

Your objective is to delay the English. An overwhelming victory will be achieved if you hold the town and hill for 12 turns. Holding the town or hill for only 9 turns will be a marginal victory.

Honor Points: French players get full honor points for all figures removed from play (including any oftheir infantry run down by their own cavalry). Your forces are as follows:
