Essex Miniatures is one of the largest manufacturers of historical figures in England. And like many English figure lines they have been difficult to obtain in North America. Fortunately for all of us Essex now has an American distributor who is not only stocking entire lines of their figures but also offers extras like discounts for bulk orders and an information service to help with the organization of your armies. The first thing that stands out about Essex is their incredible variety. Their Medieval line is a case in point. They offer over 80 individual figures ranging from a mounted king complete with falcon on arm to an almost endless selection of foot soldiers. Of course, this is not the first company to produce 25mm Medieval figures but it is certainly one of the best. On the outset the figures fit nicely with Citadel figures and the combination of the two should make an impressive army. Even the greatest variety, however, is no substitute for quality. These figures definitely have quality. While they may not be the elegant master pieces currently being produced by Ral Partha or Grenadier they can certainly hold their own with all the rest. The foot soldiers are especially impressive with a wealth of detail and great posing. The figures are somewhat stout but this can be excused when you consider the period and the equipment worn by the average soldier.
