English/Dutch Landsknecht
1580-1630 (figures)

Reviewed by Nick Nascati

I just received three new foot figures for the Landsknechnt range from this increasingly prolific English manufacturer. The figures represent English/Dutch foot circa 1580 - 1630. The castings are L/11 Pikeman with breastplate, shoulder pike; L/12 Foot in leather jerkin, shouldered pike; and a L/13 Foot in leather jerkin, pike upright,

Along with these, are two new heads; no. 11, head in morion, his is a nicely done English type morion with a high comb and, no. 12 head in high crowned hat, this features a well done face with a characteristic van dyke moustache and beard. All three figures come equipped with well cast but thick pikes, and typical infantry swords.

Size, compatibility, paintability, etc., were all discussed in detail in my review of the entire range, so it will suffice to say that these figures are of the same high standards. Detail wise, they are more basic than the ornate Landsknecht, but by the same token, they are more useful. The two figures in jerkins, can be used for a variety of purposes, from unarmored infantry to civilian types to role playing characters. From that standpoint, they are good figures to have several of around, painted up in basic colors to be used where needed.

As wargame figures go, marching and standing figures have never been well thought of by me, though in the rear ranks of a pike formation, they would be acceptable. Rating the figures, would go as follows;

FigureAnatomyAnimationDetail PaintabilityCastingTotal
L/11.8.5.7 1.0.93.9
L/12.8.5.7 1.0.93.9
L/13.8.4.7 1.0.93.8

Overall, I can give these figures a good recommendation, based on their general usefulness. Lamming miniatures are available from: LAMMING MINIATURES, 254 Wincolmlee, Hull HU2 OPZ, England.
