With this issue, Jim Womer takes over as Editor from Jay Hadley and principal figure reviewer for THE REVIEWING STAND. Jay will be involved in PR work with some of the figure manufacturers and felt that it would appear a conflict-of-interest if he were to continue as figure review Editor. We will continue to hear from Jay, however, as he has man, articles planned for THE COURIER. Let me take this opportunity to express my deepfelt thanks to Jay for all that he has done for the hobby and especially for THE COURIER. -- ED. Jim is married, age 32 and by profession, an Attorney practicing law in Center City, Philadelphia, where he also resides with his wife, Jane; both Jane and his father are artists. Jim's association with miniatures wargaming dates back to the late 1950's when, with his cousin, he began collecting SAE's 30mm figures of the American Civil War period and engaging in very rudimentany "games." Later, in high school, he participated in a number of games using H.G. WELL's rules and 54mm Britians metal figures. It was during this period that he discovered Napoleonics and began amassing his present collection. Following college and beginning with his association with then MFCA wargames group in the Philly area, he concentrated on the Napoleonic period Within that period, he emphasized the developmrnt of the armies of central Europe, relying heavily on a modified version of the C.L.S. Napoleonic Army organization pioneered by Fred Vietmeyer. The result of this effort is an army of some 3,000 30mm figures with contingents from France, Prussia, Austria, Poland and the Rheinbund, with further forces planned for the future. While the majority of the collection are 30mm SCRUBY figures, the elite units are usually STADDEN figures, with some by SUREN. In addition to the above. he has also found time to collect and paint the British and German fleets circa 1916 and an extensive Japanese fleet for World War II. In addition to his continuing Napoleonic work, his current auxiliary interest is micro-armor of the WWII Eastern Front variety, using roughly the level of Arnold Hendrick's 1944 system. He maintains a strong interest in the American Civil War and is very interested in the ancient period, as well as the American Revolution. Although he has maintained an interest in boardgaming, he is first and foremost a miniatures wargamer. To him, this has meant that he purchases, paints and organizes wargame armies representative of their historical predecessors. In painting, he does not consider himself a master, but aims to achieve a "wargame standard" with some detailing; however, he does admit that he enjoys painting flags and standards!
