25/28mm Qin/Ch'In Chinese

by John Boehm

This is a new company whose objective is to produce 25/28 mm. figures with a focus on uncommon armies. This is their first line, which will be followed by armies of Tamerlane and later, Post-Mongol Russians, the Golden Horde, Serbians and others. The figures are 29 M. on the Barrett scale. Each pack consists of four foot, three mounted or one chariot with crew. The foot retail for $7.00 a pack, the mounted $11.00 a pack and a chariot with three crew for $18.00. Also available is a banner sheet of four flags for $3.00. The figures received for review were cleanly cast with good detail and facial features. The weapons and shields are cast on the figures. The mounted figures are cast in separate upper and lower halves which allows for some individual variation in body position. The horses received were cast in two different poses and are stocky with heavy legs. The infantry consists of eight packs, including foot soldiers with pole weapons, or spears, swordsmen, skirmishers with bow or javelin, bowmen, crossbowmen, foot command and levies with hand weapons or javelins. The cavalry consists of three packs, heavy, light and mounted command.

There are three chariot variations, command, crossbow and spear, and spear and pole arm. The infantry received for review included the foot command (Q7) which consists of an unarmored standard bearer, an unarmored drummer with a large kettle drum suspended at the waist, and two officers with sword and shield. The officers, in different positions, also have quilted armor and wear a type of cap with chin straps. The mounted figures received for review were QM1, heavy cavalry, and consisted of two different figures, both with quilted body armor. One has a sword, the other has a crossbow in his hand. The former is equipped with a helmet, the later has a rounded type of cap with chin straps. The figures are available from Molniya Miniatures, P O Box 324, Portsmouth, Rhode Island 02871. Examples of the painted figures are available on the web site, and look quite impressive; members.aol.com/molniyafigs.
