Legions East

15mm WWII Russians

by Bill Rutherford

I've just received several more packs of TTS's Legions East range, as well as their current price list. ER-2 Russian Infantry, Summer Dress, comes with several poses including kneeling and standing firing, and a couple of advancing figures. ER-3, Russian Command, includes several officers acting motivated, a couple of standard-bearers (!) for whom you will need to supply flags, and a nicely done pair of standing radiomen. ER-5 includes infantry support weapons - walking DP LMG gunner, a prone PTRS gunner, and an M1910 Maxim HMG team (with gunner, loader, and assistant). ER-8 includes medium mortars and crew; the PM-36 82mm mortars are in two piece and look convincing. The crew are generic; a standing fellow about to drop a round down the tube and a pair of kneeling crew (one in a nice saucer hat with field glasses). ER-9 includes light mortars and contains the same kneeling crew as well as well as a loader on the same base as the PM-38/39/40 (little to choose between in this scale) 50mm mortar. Figures remain at 15M Barrett.

Equipment for the infantry is limited to web gear and water bottles, and a couple of bed-rolls. Detailing is generally good, though the ammo drum on the DP seems somewhat small. Poses are still conservative, i.e. fairly restrained but not stilted. One infantryman still has the wide hips from TTS's previous Finns, but overall I like them. There was a bit of flash on most of the figures - nothing major, but something to be aware of. The price list shows about 25 packs of "special" troops - Hungarians, Bulgarians, Slovaks, Spaniards, and various East Front specialist German types, as well as eight different packs of Romanians and nine more packs of Finns (FN-3 Command is now available though I don't have one for review) including bicycle and ski troops, and a Bofors 37mm ATG. The figures still come packed 10 to a bag for $4.50 and should be available from your local game shop. If you can't get them there, contact Two Tin Soldiers at PMB 182, 1971 Western Ave, Albany, NY 12203, by phone at (518) 271-6585, or go to their website at www.twotinsoldiers.com for a full catalog and price list, as well as some nice color pictures of their line (a full catalog of pictures isn't up yet but I understand it's coming) If you game WW II in 15mm, you should take a look at these… Recommended!
