Decal Details

by Bill Rutherford

While at Historicon 2003 the folks at I-94 kindly provided me four of their more recent 1/285th scale decal sheets for review. Simplest of the lot, but most useful to armor gamers, is sheet MI-107 which contains armor chevrons – both black and white – in 9”, 12”, and 18” heights (in scale), enough to mark 30 vehicles in each color in each of the smaller sizes and 36 vehicles in each color in the 18” size, for your modern armor games. The next set (US-119) includes 16 each large (well, 11/32” long) 48 and 50 star US flags, and 28 small (7/32” long) flags of each type. The third set (MI-106) is entertaining – it includes national aircraft markings for South Korea, Nationalist China, South Vietnam, North Vietnam, and North Korea. These are dead on register and will spice up one’s post-WW2 Far East air games. Finally, sheet BR-106 includes Commonwealth CBI/Pacific aircraft markings. These, too, are very precisely printed and will look good on your various UK SEA aircraft. These last two sets include just under 100 individual markings in a variety of styles.

The CBI sheet includes strips of fin flash as well, to cut to size for your aircraft. I-94’s range, as I’ve noted before, is extraordinary, both in terms of the quality of the decals and in terms of the extreme variety of the range. Priced at $3.00 per set (generally of two sheets), it’s difficult to go wrong with these decals. Your local game shop probably carries them. If they don’t, or if you just want to check out I-94’s catalog (current as of Historicon 2003) on-line, go to http://www.i-94enterprises.com/ and take a look! If you use decals for anything, you’ll be glad you did. Oh – you can call I-94 at 269-945-3185, or you can write to them at 431 W. Colfax, Hastings, MI, 49058-1103, as well. Recommended!!!
