Our new Napoleonic Editor is Rob Hamper who hails from Canada’s eastern coast. A marine engineer by profession, he is a true wargamer at heart. He has had a longstanding love affair with military history, having raided local libraries for books on WWII since he was 12. His first foray into miniatures was about the same time when he collected and painted Airfix figures on his favourite WWII theatre: North Africa as well as building several armour dioramas. When his family moved to West Africa, he carried on his interest with the only genre available to him, fantasy. It was also his first sortie into metal miniatures and he even tried his hand at casting them while amassing armies of goblins and skeletons on his mother’s table courtesy of Prince August. It wasn’t until after college, safely ensconced in his own home, that he picked up the hobby again, the desire having evolved into Napoleonics. It was in this era that he truly felt at home and quickly dived into all aspects of the study of this era including the War of 1812. As well as collecting books and old maps, Rob researches and collects Napoleonic era medals and decorations. He is a member of the Internet based Napoleonic Wargaming Club as well as the Colonial Campaigns Club whose members use the latest computer technology to help fight battles all over the planet. He has made contributions to the club newsletter under his own column, Grapeshot, wherein he has interviewed such noted Napoleonic authors as Peter Hofschröer and David Chandler. Currently Rob is developing several Napoleonic armies for initiating the members of his local informal wargaming chapter as well as painting 28mm Prussian pieces for display purposes. Rob thrives on research and widening his understand of all aspects of the Napoleonic era, especially as they pertain to gaming on the table. To that end, he is participating in the development and play-testing of a couple of rule sets. Rob has just become a father for the first time and it is rumored that he has used dice for his son’s first rattle! Courier Dispatch News About the Hobby.
