Canadian Situation Report

7th June, 1944, near Buissons, France

SITUATION: 9th Infantry Brigade, 3rd Canadian Infantry Division, has advanced south towards CAEN and its major objective, the Carpiquet Airfield. The high ground north of Buissons was captured just before dusk on 6th June, 1944. Elements of 8th Infantry Brigade, to the east of 9th Brigade, reported contacting German armored units in Colombysur-thaon, Northeast of our position. The de la Chaudiere Regiment reported losing a platoon and taking prisoners from 21st Panzer Division.

MISSION: The North Nova Scotia Highlanders (NNSH) Regiment, 9th Infantry Brigade, will advance at dawn to capture Carpiquet Airfield. This advance will be supported by Division Artillery and the tanks of the Sherbrooke Fusilers Regiment (SFR),(27th Armored Regiment). Objectives are marked on your map.

AT START: High ground just north of the table edge (see map). Canadian units arrive at the north table edge 30 inches or more west of the NE corner of the table. Canadian units may not cross attach. NO FLANK MARCHES

SUPPORT: 3xFO Team each with a jeep. Each FO directs 2 batteries 25 pdr artillery off table. Artillery ammunition available is 12 salvos per battery. Artillery is currently being moved up from the beaches, but should be available shortly.

    The Sherbrooke Fusiliers Regiment

      HQ: 1 Sherman 75, 2 Stuart M3A3 Light tanks
      3 Tank Squadrons each: 3 Sherman 75, 1 Sherman Firefly (17 pdr)
      4 3-ton British "ammo" trucks, 6 US 2 1/2 ton "fuel" trucks

    Support Units (these may be attached to either unit)

BRITISH

SITUATION: Elements of 8th Infantry Brigade reported contacting German armored units in Colombysur-thaon. 9th Infantry Brigade, 3rd Canadian Infantry Division, to the west, has advanced south towards CAEN and its major objective, the Carpiquet Airfield. The high ground north of Buissons was captured just before dusk. The de la Chaudiere Regiment reported losing a platoon and taking prisoners from 21st Panzer Division. Although your Brigadier does not consider the 8th Infantry Brigade ready to advance until the 8th June, Division has ordered you to support the Canadian advance on the morning of 7th June.

MISSION: The 2nd Battalion, Royal Ulster Rifles (RUR), 8th Infantry Brigade, will advance at dawn to the south to support the Canadian attack on the right flank. This advance will be supported by Division Artillery and the tanks of the East Riding Yeomanry. Objectives are marked on your map.

AT START: Just north of the table edge on the Canadian left flank. This is from a point 30" west of the NE corner of the table going EAST back towards the NE corner. You are to the Canadians left facing south. British units may not cross attach. NO FLANK MARCHES. BRITISH MAY NOT COORDINATE THEIR ATTACK WITH THE CANADIANS.

SUPPORT: 2xFO Team with a jeep. The FO directs 1 battalion each 25 pdr artillery off-table support. Artillery ammunition available is 12 salvos per battery. Additional artillery is moving off the beaches and may be available later.
