The Zouave, the ACW wargaming magazine, has a new editor/publisher, Ivor Janci. He intends to add color covers, and perhaps some interior color. A ge of Empires, formerly Colonial Conquest, is expanding its coverage to the conflicts of 1815-1914, plus any "Colonial" action from 1790-1939, although the ACW will not generally be included. Issue 13 ranges from a first-person memoir of the battle of Chillianwallah (Sikh War 0f 1849), through histories of the French 1892 campaign in Dahomey and an incident of the Matabele War of 1893 to a wargaming scenario from Loigny, in the Franco-Prussian War. There is also a reprint of an 1899 article on armored trains, along with reviews and editorial. 42 pp, glossy with color covers, many illustrations. First Empire covers Napoleonic history, reenactment, and gaming Although the direct wargaming content has been very limited in recent issues, the contents are of interest to anyone gaming the period. Issue 38 contains a wargame refight of Maida, along with histories of the battle of Gohrde and Marmont's actions in 1814, quick bios of Oudinot and Quentin Crauford, an article on daily life in Napolwonic France, citations from British infantry uniform regulations, and an account of a reenactment event. 34 pp glossy with color cover, many illustrations. SAGA Newsletter is devoted to Ancient and Medieval wargaming. Issue 61 has histories of the battle of Knockdoe (Ireland, 1504), Tunis (1535), the latter with suggestions for gaming under several sets of rules, rules clarifications for Medieval Warfare, Terry Gore's thoughts on Ancient wargaming, and thoughts on Achaemenid Persians in DBM, along with reviews and letters. 36 pp, 5 1/2 x 8 1/2, $25/6 issues. Issue 121 has a campaign for King Arthur, another for medieval warfare in an imaginary world, rules for handling desertion and diplomacy in campaigns, a simple card-based WW2 air game, and an account of an on-going campaign, all for solo players. Empires, Eagles, & Lions has returned to a 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 format, without color and with few illustrations. It remains a premier source for any gamer with an interest in the Napoleonic era. Vol.3, No.2 includes a reprint of a chapter from Brent Nosworthy's With Musket, Cannon and Sword, George Nafziger's work on Russian skirmisher tactics, Paddy Griffith on the staff organization of the French Division in 1807, a continuing treatment of the evolution of the French Army from Divisions to Army Corps, and the history anad uniforms of the Mecklenburg-Streilitz Hussars and the French 11th Hussars.
