BARRY FOX - AGE OF SAIL EDITORLike most gamers from the Beattles-Viet Nam War generation, Barry came to the hobby through boardgames, though initially , except for a brief flirtation with "Broadsides", a 1812 board game, his main love was WW II armor. Barry was stationed in Europe during Nam and staved off boredom by painting troops for a W.W.II African campaign that never came off and by press ganging people into playing in Russo-Japanese War naval battles, fought with pre-dreadnoughts made from shoe boxes. During the early 70's he was an ardent player of "Tractics" until a Dave Arneson Age Of Sail battle report in an issue of "Panzerfaust" turned him on to "Don't Give Up The Ship" naval rules. After several years of research and rules modification, Barry developed his own rules, "Beat To Quarters" which were published (and sold out) by Command Perspectives in 1981. Though he had plans to revise the gunnery rules in a 2nd edition, Command Perspectives closed its doors and the rules are now out of print. Today Barry spends more of his time in his first love, research then he does in painting and gaming. But the research takes the form of finding a more realistic, yet playable rules for the Age of Sail. Barry's favorites in this area are Steve Birney's "Action Under Sail" and Rod Langton's "Signal Close Action", both British rules. Barry feels, however, that a bit more is needed for ship to ship and small squadron actions. Barry is the owner of a modest library of some 200 titles and is currently preparing a series of short articles which will cover the OBs, ship types, uniforms, flags, etc. of the navies of the period 1792 - 1815. Through these Barry hopes to promote the period to a wider group of gamers. He says "Its never too late to start a new period. With the current wealth of fantastic 1/1200 sailing ships coming from GHQ, Triton (carried by MiniFigs), and the newer, but equally impressive Rod Langton Miniatures, all it takes is a couple of ships and one set of rules to get started. For those veteran subscribers who might appreciate some basic background information on the period, I can't recommend too highly digging out the six issues of Volume Six of The Courier to read the excellent articles by Jon Williams, who was then the Theme Editor." TERRY GORE - MEDIEVAL EDITORTerry is 47 years old, married with two children and has been gaming with miniatures since 1963. He didn't get involved with ancients until the mid-70's when he was introduced to WRG 3rd edition. Since then, Terry slowly switched to almost exclusively playing the 375-1415 A.D. period. Because of the hobby, Terry has written extensively for a number of publications including MILITARY HISTORY, SLINGSHOT, THE COURIER and others while having six wargame scenario booklets published by PALLAS ARMATA in England. Terry is presently the editor of SPEARPOINT, the official journal of NASAMW as well as editor and publisher of SAGA, now in its seventh year of publication.
