This is primarily a scenario handbook published by The Canadian Wargame Group similar to the old Featherstone publications and Terry Gore's recent works. It is a particularly well presented representative of the genre. The full size soft cover edition opens with a (very) brief discussion of Late Medieval warfare, including a page or so on armament, heraldry, etc., which adds a little color but wouldn't tell the Medieval miniatures gamer anything he didn't already know. This is followed by a four page set of miniatures' rules, complete with 'Battle Lust Levels' and card generated action pts. for the commanders, dependent upon their abilities, which seems to be somewhat excessive chrome for rules that spend one paragraph each on Melee and Movement. As the scenario set-ups properly demonstrate, in this era good generals showed their stuff by choosing ground and deploying properly, once the festivities commenced there was not a lot of scope for intricate maneuver. Anyway, nobody should be buying this book for the rules. The scenarios, occupying 50 of the 76 pages, would work well with most appropriate systems, Chris Parker's Knighthood and the Middle Ages particularly coming to mind. Thirteen battles from the Scottish Wars, Hundred Years War, and War of the Roses are lavishly presented with briefings, OB's, and deployments ranging from general area set ups to specific positioning of units (A note of nostalgia for us old timers, Barnet is included, which I hadn't heard of since the Prestags days ah, memories!). Battlefields are gridded out for tables ranging from 4' x 4' for small encounters to 8'X 5' for Bannockburn. Professionally presented and a nice effort, Flower of Chivalry would be very helpful to those interested in recreating engagements of the period. Price is $16, available at 'finer hobby stores' or from the Canadian Wargames Group, Box 1725 Station 'M', Calgary Alberta Canada T2P 2L7. More reviews
