Eighteenth Century Military Notes and Queries is devoted to warfare in the period 1660-1780. No. 10 includes Cumberland's account of the battle of Culloden, a fourth installment of the militaq history of Prince Eugene of Savoy, a discussion of William Howe's influence in introducing light infantry tactics to the British Army, the beginning of a series on the uniforms of the Great Northern War, and a number of other articles as well as the characteristic queries and answers thereto. 40 pp, US subs from Military Matters, 55 Taylor Terrace, Hopewell, NJ. Empires, Eagles, and Lions has a new publisher and a new look. Now in a large page glossy format with some color pages, it continues its first-rate treatment of the Napoleonic era. Major articles in the July/August edition include Scott Bowden on the 1806 war; George Nafziger on Austrian and French artillery, notes on the English Midlands regiments by Paddy Griffith, and Marc Raiff's comparison of the Austrian and French chains of command in 1809. Review is the newsletter of the Potomac Wargamers inimitably edited by Walter Simon. It is largely concerned with descriptions of experimental rules and their playtesting, with the odd review (usually of rules) and commentary. The Redcoat Journal deals with the AWI and other colonial wars of the late 18th century. The most recent issue contains articles on the Corsican War of Independence and Lord Dunmore's Ethiopian Regiment, letters and comment. 20 pages, $12 currency/4 issues. 18 Bracken Close, Honiton, Devon, EXlYS, United Kingdom. Lone Warrior is required reading for solo wargamers. Articles include ideas on game mechanisms, suggested scenarios and campaigns, battle reports, and reviews. There is an extensive letters section. The American publication with the closest flavor (although a different focus) is Hal Thinglum's MWAN Newsletter. The latest issue has Don Featherstone on wargaming the Nile campaign and Jon Lucas describing how to set up a solo ECW campaign, among many others. 40 pages, $21 surface, $29 air (currency)/6 issues.
