Wargames Illustrated is one of the British glossies, published in full four- color glory. It is distinguished from Practical Wargamer and Miniature Wargames by not having a regular column by Ian Weekley. Indeed, it avoids columnists, editorials, and letters altogether. Instead it has half a dozen illustrated articles, specializing in wargame scenarios and history. The July issue, for example, has recreation scenarios for Ravenna (1512), Manchester (1642), a Turkish assault on a fortified camp held by CharlesXII of Sweden (1713), and a fictional scenario Charles XII of Sweden (1713), as well as a fictional scenario for the War of the Roses linking a skirmish game and a massed battle. There is a short history of the battleof Nezuet Ghirba (1940) in Cyrenaica, the third part of a history of the Great Praguayan War (1864-1870), and the first part of a history of the Taiping Rebellion. There is also a short review of Empire. 54 pages, 12-issue annual subscriptions available from The Emperor's Headquarters, 5744 West Irving Park Road, Chicago, IL 60634, tel (312) 777-8668. The Kriegsspiel Newsletter is intended for players of the umpired map movement game which first appeared in 1828 and has been recently republished by Bill Leeson. Recent issues have dealt with cavalry charges, dispositions of Prussian combined arms with cavalry charges, dispositions of Prussian combined arms brigades, expansion of the game to division and corps levels, rules modifications, and an announcement that additional maps were available. If you play this game or have an interest in horse and powder warfare this is of interest. 8 pages, 8 pages, 8 1/2 x 11, 4 issues/75p in the UK.ln the US, contact Howard Whitehouse, 104 Lawrence St, LaFayette, GA 30728 CATALOGS RECEIVED GDW Games - Command Decision, Over the Top, Combined Arms, and Harpoon and their accessories, as well as GDW's extensive GDW's extensive line of fantasy, SF, and board games.
