Hans Delbruck was one of the leading contemporary military historians of Imperial Germany, and a new selection of his writings has been collected and translated by Arden Bucholtz in 'Delbruck's Modern Military History' (University of Nebraska Press, 1, Gower Street, London, WCIE 611A. ISBN: 0-8032-1698-X. Price 42.75 pounds). The selections here fall into two broad areas; a series of vivid letters written from the front during the Franco-Prussian War, and a number of essays and commentaries concerning military theory and practise on the eve of, throughout, and after WWI. An important insight into the thinking of a perceptive military mind in Imperial Germany, though this book will probably only appeal to the serious student.
