Citadel of Fire is a dungeon module created by Marc Summerlott for the Judges Guild, and it originally appeared in issue "S" of the Guildmember subscription. The 32-page booklet is attractively illustrated and definitely ready to be used with no more than about ten minutes' preparation. The players move on one campaign map until they reach their destination hex, then move on a sub-system map until they reach the citadel, built by Nrathak the Black over 500 years ago and currently lorded over by Yrammag, a 15th level mage. The rules book includes programming for the citadel as well as for the five dungeon levels underneath it. The module gives a comprehensive presentation of a self-sufficient community, populated by characters given the usual complete JG statistics. In most cases, the DM must continue to supply atmosphere, for the descriptions of rooms tend to be sketchy; however, several areas contain fine pictorial description which leaves no doubt as to how a room appears. Finally, various tables are provided which, if not new, at least give us a microscopic view of what people do as they kick around their citadel. Activity tables cover 21 areas and include about 400 actions ranging from inspecting stables to sitting in state and listening to some peasant promote higher grain prices. At $3.00, Citadel becomes a cheaper substitute for other modules reviewed in the Prism. The buyer gives up a little in description and packaging, but he saves a couple of bucks to spend on a Shield, or whatever. Citadel is available from JG or LE. Note: I did not playtest this one prior to reviewing it. More RPG Mini-Reviews
