by Stuart Reid
According to the log of the East Indianian 'General Stuart' a prisoner named Charles Henry Smith alias Charles D'Aguille was brought aboard in irons just as the ship was about to sail from Sagor Island at the mouth of the Hoogly River on Saturday 11th December 1813. He was taken back to England to face a charge of High Treason. The 'General Stuart' arrived off Beachy Head on Tuesday 31st May 1814 (having been informed of the end of the war with France on the 25th) and Smith/D'Aguille was landed, still in irons, a couple of days later. Does anyone know who he was, what he'd done and what became of him? More Queries
