While at the Wellington Congress in Southampton in July, I picked up a leaflet detailing some of the large number of prints in this collection housed at Morrab Llbrary, Penzance. This Private Subscription Library has 65,000 books, old newspapers etc., and various archives as well as modern books. In the Dawson Napoleonic Collectlon there are 5,000 coloured and black & white prints of the period 1770-1840 covering a wide range of subjects, such as: Revolutlonary Scenes; The French Monarchy: Napoleon and his famlly; the Planned Invaslon of Britain: the Egyptlan Campaign: The Peninsular War: The Royal Navy: German, Austrian, Polish and Russian Monarchy and Notables: the Battle of Waterloo: general scenes of France, Spain, Portugai and Corslca. I had a look at some of the samples on display, and there is certainly a wide variety of picture types, some of which I recognised and some that were totally new to me. This is certainly a collection that any serious historian should take a look at. For more details contact: Morrab Library, Morrab Gardens, Penzance, Cornwall, TR18 4DA. Tel. 01736 364474.
