Effective with Volume XI, Jim Mitchell will take over the editorial reins of the Journal and I retire knowing that the Journal will continue to be in capable hands. Monsieur Mitchell brings an impressive resume to the job. He is a re-enactor portraying a French grenadier in Les Troupes de Levis, so he has some keen insights into 18th Century military life. He is an accomplished writer, having been a regular contributor to the Journal over the years. I have always found Jim's writing style entertaining, informative and easy to read. I still laugh to myself whenever I think of his "Confessions of a Dead Grenadier" and its reference to the childhood game of "Nifty Falls". In addition, Jim has translated and published a number of original source material from French into English, including Camp Topographies of the Campaign of 1757 in Westphalia, an excerpt of which is published in this issue to whet your appetite. Jim has also spent a considerable amount of time researching the period, finding archival material and bringing it out to the light of day in our time. I have no doubt that much of his efforts in this area will appear in future issues of the Journal. Finally, Jim has visited many of the Frederician battlefields in Europe, having participated in the two Christopher Duffy tours of Silesia, Germany and the Czech Republic. So all in all, I think that Jim Mitchell will carry on the work that Bill Protz, myself and others have done. More Review and Outlook
