Dixon 25mm AWI Cavalry

by Jim Purky

9. Dixon 25mm AWI Cavalry: Ed Philips of Wargames Inc. was kind enough to send me some samples of the newest additions to Dixon's growing AWI line of figures. There are 3 mounted Continental light dragoons wearing a leather jockey-style helmet and 3 mounted British 17th Light. Dragoons with skull & crossbones emblem on their helmets. There are also 4 different horses for this range. The Continentals are ARAC-1 officer with raised sword, ARAC-2 trooper with raised sword, ARAC-3 trumpeter. The King's Men are ARBC-I officer with raised sword, ARBC-2 trooper with raised sword and ARBC-3 trumpeter. The horses are ARHA standing, ARH-2 trotting head bowed, ARH-3 at the gallop legs bunched, and ARH-4 horse at canter. My overall impression of the figures is favorable with the usual detail and animation that is the trademark of Dixon figures. The raised sword arms on both sets of figures appears to be a tad too long in proportion with the rest of the body. My guess is that the arm on the master figure didn't shrink as much as expected. The horses are well-animated, but are a bit on the small side. The saddles are cast onto the horse. The figures look nice when painted despite my somewhat minor reservations. Prices are $1.49 per rider and $2.69 per horse in the US and 65p/95p, respectively in the UK. Order from Wargames Inc. Box 278, 40 East, Triadelphia, WV 26059-0278. Phone orders (304) 547-0000.
