Crocus Carpet In October 2004, Portsmouth Cathedral
planted a Trafalgar Crocus Carpet to bloom in
February 2005 along the High Street side of
the Cathedral in Old Portsmouth that is close
to the route probably taken by Admiral Nelson
on his way to join HMS Victory.

Trafalgar: 200 Years of
Tars, Naval Tradition &
Nelson's Inspiration 14 May-31 December
This exhibition at the Alberta Naval Museum
in Calgary, Canada, looks at the events
that led up to the battle of Trafalgar and the
battle outcome. Nelson's death is discussed
along with the legacy of Nelson in popular
culture and in naval tradition. There will also be
a display of shipboard life during Nelson's era.

A Race around the Isle
of Wight 13 June
England expects everyone to do his or her
duty in this special yacht race around the Isle
of Wight for the competitors of the Atlantic
Challenge. The prize will be a new trophy,
known as the Nelson Plate, a replica of one of
Nelson's silver dinner plates presented to him
by Lloyd's of London.

Review 28 June
Ships from thirty-five nations, making up
the biggest ever multinational gathering of ships
in history. There will also be a historic battle
re-enactment in the Solent by Tall Ships with a

The New Trafalgar

A symbolic recreation of the voyage in
1805 by Lt Lapenotiere in HM Schooner
Pickle from Cape Trafalgar to Falmouth, and
his drive by post chaise from there to London
delivering Vice-Admiral Collingwood's Trafalgar
Dispatch to London. Events and activities
will take place along, or close to, the land
route including a Trafalgar ball, receptions,
dinners, concerts and lectures.

Thames Nelson Flotilla 16 September
Witness a symbolic recreation of Nelson's
waterborne funeral procession from Greenwich
to Whitehall. The aim is to assemble the largest
flotilla seen on the Thames in modern times with
a view to entering the Guinness Book of Records.

Race 17 September
This year’s twenty-two-mile ‘river mara thon’

The Trafalgar
Weekend 21-23 October
The nation unites to celebrate the 200th
anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar. Beacons
will blaze across the land, church bells will peal
and festivities will take place in homes, hotels,
pubs, schools and in village and town halls
throughout the UK, Isle of Man and Channel
Islands. There will be several national events
during this weekend but you can also arrange
your own celebration. Detailed information on
how to take part in the Trafalgar Weekend will
be available from 1 January 2005 when a participation
pack and website will be launched.

Service of
commemoration and
thanksgiving in Great
Yarmouth, Norfolk 23 October
A service in honour of those who fought
in Nelson's ships attended by their descendants.
It will be held in St Nicholas's Church,
the largest parish church in England, where
Nelson worshipped in 1801 on his return from
the Battle of Copenhagen.
