Book News from Osprey

By Paul Chamberlain

Osprey Publishing has some interesting titles for the coming year. In February the Campaign Series sees the addition of Corunna 1809: Sir John Moore’s Fighting Retreat by Philip Haythornthwaite priced at £11.99. The same month sees the beginning of a new series under the general title of Essential Histories. The first title in this programme of publication will be The Napoleonic Wars: The Rise of the Emperor 1805-1807 by Todd Fisher, looking at Napoleon’s great campaigns against the Austrians, Prussians and Russians. In April they will publish Lutzen and Bautzen 1813, and Napoleon’s Commanders (1) by Philip Haythornthwaite and Patrice Courcelle. This is the first of a two volume look at the careers and personalities of more than two dozen of Napoleon’s leading colleagues and subordinate commanders in the Revolutionary and Napoleonic period to 1809.

All these dates are subject to change, and during the second half of the year Osprey intend publishing Wellington’s Belgian Allies 1815, The Portuguese Armies of the Napoleonic Wars (3), The French Revolutionary Wars (Essential Histories series), and in the Vanguard series a book entitled British Napoleonic Ship of the Line. As more details become available they will be included in the Newsdesk.
