The Marengo Uniform

The first two battalions wore what was termed "pantalon a l'infanterie leger." Research shows that the third battalion likely was not equipped in that style until after marengo. The pantalons were replaced (indeed forbidden) in january 1802 and from that dat eon the 9th Legere wore standard, regulation culottes. This illustration shows a Chasseur wearing the regulation uniform circa 1804.

Uniforms in Spain

In 1808, the regiment goes to Spain. The suypply lines break down and the 9th Legere is forced to equip themselves from captured British and Spanish stores. The officers were heavily armed, replacing epees with sabres and carrying a carbione and brace of pistols. They even "inflate" their blue pantalons like Mamlukes.
