From 1799 to 1819 over 1,000 pages of naval news and views were published every year in The Naval Chronicle, including action reports, intelligence of foreign naval matters, biographies of officers, anecdotes, stories and poetry, and the publication was quickly recognised as the most reliable and comprehensive record of naval events. It is a very valuable research tool for the Napoleonic naval historian. Chatham Publishing are producing a new consolidated edition, to appear in five volumes, containing all the most significant material from the originals. A feature of this new publication will be the inclusion of thematic sections which gather together material on particular subjects which was originally scattered at random throughout. The series is edited and introduced by Nicholas Tracy, and Volumes I and II were published on 22 October, price £30 hardback and £18 paperback. Volume I covers 1793-1798, From the Occupation of Toulon to the Battle of the Nile; while Volume II covers 1798-1805, From Copenhagen to the Eve of Trafalgar. More Napoleonic Newsdesk
