Admiralty Library at Royal Naval Museum

by Paul Chamberlain

The Admiralty Library was first created in the 19th Century and contains a large number of rare and historic books on naval history and related subjects. The largest part of this magnificent collection is now in Portsmouth, under the management and care of the Royal Naval Museum. It joins the Museum's own Library collection - a small but significant library of naval history in its own right. In addition to the Libraries, the Admiralty's significant collection of manuscripts are also available in the Reading Room to supplement those which are already available in the Museum's archives. The two Libraries are housed in a newly refurbished naval storehouse to the seaward side of the magnificent Georgian Storehouse premises of the Museum.
