You read about their impending arrival first in issue 3 of First Empire. I am pleased to say that the new TONY BARTON Figures WILL be available in the New Year. In fact you can buy pre-release samples from Wargames South at conventions. Received by the editor are samples of the new Austrian range. The samples comprised German Infantry (Kasket), German Infantry (Shako), German Grenadiers, Jagers, officers, Dragoon and horse. I could wax lyrical about each figure and fill several pages, detailing the exceptional modelling, accuracy and style of these figures but there is no need. They are quite simply better than anything I have previously seen and make Battle Honours figures obsolete, these were of course designed by Tony, but as with most things he improves with age. All figures will be supplied in two to three variations of the basic pose, the samples supplied reflected this with variations in standing, march attack and skirmishing poses. Drawbacks, well there are a couple, the basic figure price is to be 18p each, and they are larger than your average 15mm figure, measuring 22mm from bottom of the base to highest point of the cap (Grenadier figures). They do, however, fit in well with B.H. figures, despite being of a fuller figure. Availability, Wargames South and Hallmark will be manufacturing and retailing the figures, by both mail order and trade shows. For our American and Canadian readers, these figures will be available from The Emperor's Headquarters, Chicago. Recommended, for serious collectors who cann afford something exceptional.
