Napoleonic Prisoners of War
in Ashby de la Zouch

During the Napoleonic Wars, Ashby de la Zouch was one of a number of Parole Depots at which French officers resided after giving their word of honour in writing not to escape and to abide by the parole regulations. Ashby Museum will be staging an exhibition during the year to illustrate the story of these prisoners of war in the locality. It will run from 11 April (Easter Saturday) through to Sunday 27 September 1998. Admission will be 50p for Adults and 30p Children/Senior Citizens. In conjunction with this exhibition, Ashby de la Zouch Local History Society will be presenting a talk entitled Prisoners of War in Britain 1793-1815, given by Paul Chamberlain.
