Action at Bamberg
Small scenario from Charles Grant, adapted to be played with Honours of War.
In brief, Austria convinced the Reichsarmee to redeploy on the border between Saxony and Bohemia to protect the latter from a potential Prussian invasion from Saxony. The Reichsarmee was further reinforced by an Austrian corps under the command of General Dombasle, consisting of Austrian troops who had until then served with the French in Westphalia. The Duke of Zweibriicken had now succeeded the Prince of Hildburghausen at the head of the Reichsarmee.
On April 19, Zweibriicken’s Army encamped at Bayreuth. Meanwhile, Prince Henri advanced upon the Reichsarmee. On May 15, as the Prussians approached, the Reichsarmee left Bayreuth and encamped at Eger (present-day Cheb) in Bohemia. A small detachment was left behind to cover Franconia and the magazines at Bamberg. In late May, Prince Henri sent Genera! Georg Wilhelm von Driesen on a raid into the E~pi~e. He was ordered to ~arch into the land~ of Bamberg and Wurzburg, exact contnbut1ons from the countrys1de and s~read fear 1nto Bavaria. It was hoped that this would not only divert troops for protect1on hut cause those assailed to demand their contingents back from the army.
