I would like to take this opportunity to thank Bill Boyle for his submission and permission to print these articles on Thirty Years War warfare. It is my understanding from Mr. Boyle that this is revised and updated material, originally published in part by the MWAN. Only minor editing was done, in order to fit the article into my magazine's space. The Scenario article was designed to provide actions for his set of rules which simulates combat from that era. These rules will be published in limited quantity later this summer. Interested gamers should contact me prior to printing in order to reserve a copy. Just contact me by email or regular mail with your request. I have added my own article which is a Chronology of the Thirty Years War era in Europe. In a later issue, I will publish an article on uniforms and a chronology of the English Civil War. Additional Bibliographic notes Since the original bibliography was complied, additional easy to find sources have been released, especially in the related English Civil War area. Also many articles on the era can be found on the MAGWEB.COM website. Osprey has released several books on the armies of the Thirty Years War. Mr. Boyle includes the Japanese armies of this era which are extensively covered. Armies of Gustavus Adolphus (1 & 2), Polish Armies 1590-1696 (1 & 2), Mughul India. Another unusual souce is the series of easy to play wargames. The quad series released by SPI and 3W in partricular are very useful. The games provide for easy to read Orders of battles and the maps can be used to layout a scenario. The Dawn of Modern Warfare. T.E. Griess, ed. West Point Military History Series
