This section includes notes on the "Fire! Ogon! Feuer!" miniature rules and the other article in this issue. Since F-0-F was originally released the trend in World War 2 gaming has shifted from the predominate use of micro-scale vehicles to the current trend of 15mm castings for large battles and larger scale castings for skirmish combat. As a result, players may not consider the treatment of infantry in F-O-F as suitable for their gaming. Players need to remember that the system is designed mainly for fast moving armored battles with infantry in an supporting role. However with a few modifications the role of infantry can be greatly expanded. The main area of modification is in the infantry vs infantry section and the total elimination combat results. The 1 1/2" x 1 1/2" base for the infantry section (fireteam) or weapon's system will still be used. (The basing size for 15mm may have been omitted from the basic rules.) There are no changes to the Infantry vs Tank charts. I recommend a step reduction with the unusual aspect of no loss of combat effectiveness for an impaired status. For Firing continue to use the FIR Fire Intensity Rating. Here is the recommended changes to the Combat charts. Read the Suppression results as the same. The Eliminated result should be read as referring to the loss of a combat effectiveness level. Therefore a Normal- Full Strength section which is hit becomes Impaired. An Impaired section becomes Destroyed. Some players like infantry sections having three levels but this requires some bookkeeping on the part of the players. Due to the short duration of the actual battle an impaired level cannot be improved to Normal. Another area which is needed to reflect infantry combat, is the common occurrence of being pinned/ suppressed. Frequent suppression was a common situation during World War 2. This is why Suppression results may occur alone, as well as combined with an Eliminated result The original Scenario generation system which was published with F-O-F was released as a separate article in a different issue. If enough interest is expressed, I will release in a separate issue additional weapon's charts and rule modifications so these rules can be used for Battles occurring in World War One and the Russian Civil War.
