Adoption It was common for native nations to adopt members of a destroyed enemy. Sometimes the adoption include only women and children. However if the victorious tribe was in need of replacing lost warriors in a hurry, due to being involved in other wars, then warriors would be adopted also. It seems that the adoption process was often preferred when the enemy descended from the same linguistic family. The dispersal of the adoptees also varied depending on the nations and situations. The adopted tribes may be allowed to establish separate villages or scattered among the conquerors villages. Mico The term used for a chief in the Muscogee language. In the Muscogee nation the Mico's power was closer to a mayor than a king. Sachem The term for chief or tribal leader in the eastern part of North America Primarily used among the Iroquian and Algonquin language nations. The Great Migration Those anti-British native nations located in Florida and the southern areas of Alabama and Mississippi left those areas when they were given to Great Britain in 1764. Many of the Florida tribes migrated to Cuba. Other tribes went to the Spanish controlled Louisiana Territory.
