This is a list of a few significant battles between native forces without the presence of European or Iroquois. These are considered to be fairly balanced for a wargame scenario. In some cases (maked with a ** the numbers are estimates due to problems getting reliable orders of battle. Shetucket. 1643 An allied force of 900 Narragansett + Pocumtuc + Tunkis/Mattabesic warriors under Miontonimo (Narr. sachem) attacked the Mohegan capital at Shetucket. The allies were initially defeating the 1200+ Mohegan defenders until Miontonimo was wounded and captured. At that point the attackers lost morale and retreated. Feast of Blood 1640 est. 500 Illinois warriors attending a feast in their honor are killed by their hosts the Winnebagos with about 1500 warriors. What if the Illinois had been warned about the plan ? It could be a good scenario. Canonchet's Cache. April 1676 During the King Phillip's War, the Narragansett sachem, Canonchet, lead a warparty behind enemy lines to obtain a hidden cache of corn. The sortie was successful but the rear guard under Canonchet was ambushed by a Mohegan warparty. The sachem was killed. The Mohegans should outnumber the Narragansett 3:2 or 2:1. The mission would be to transport the supply of corn across the board. (30-100 per side) Chickasaw Oldfields. 1769 This battle between the Chickasaw and Cherokee was a Chickasaw victory. It ended an eleven year war. (*500-1000 warriors*). The Chickasaw victory gave them control over NW Alabama and west Tennessee Mobile. 1708 This battle was between pro-British nations (Cherokee, Catawba, Alibamu/ Creek) versus a pro French coalition (Mobile, Tawasa, Chatot, Apalachee, Tohomo and Naniaba). (*200-500* per side with the pro-British side having the larger force) Battle of Starved Rock. 1769 Peoria/ Illinois (*200) versus Mascouten, Potawatomi, Menominee and Ojibwe (*1000). The defending Peoria were destroyed with only a few survivors. The Hunted Hunters. 1729 A Fox hunting party (80+) warriors are destroyed by a warparty of Menominee, Winnebago and Ojibwe (200+). Blood Trail. 1730 A defeated Fox (*50-100) tribe was caught and destroyed in the open area of northern Illinois while trying to reach safety among the Iroquois. The pursuers were Menominee, Winnebago and Ojibwe warbands (*300-500) Savannah River. 1680 Shawnee (*150) attacked a Westo (*50) fortified town on the Savannah river. The Westo were defeated and left the area. Taliwa. 1755 Tsalagi (*1000) vs Muscogee (*1000). The Tsalagi victory gave them control over north Georgia.
