Dennis Largess, Villanova, Pa.

I was glad to see your piece on the Austrian Army in Vol. 3, No. 2. However, I think the list you give is not for the period 1812-13. The regiment No. 2 of the line is not mentioned as being Hungarian although it was from at least 1805. The list I have for 1813 shows that this regiment's colonel was Alexander IV von Reesaland, before 1813 its colonel was Hiller. Facing was Imperial Yellow, buttons Gold. Your list has regiment no. 19 as being commanded by Field Marshal Alvinig but by 1812 he must have been in his 90's, if he was alive. My sources show that Hesse-Homberg commanded this regiment in 1812. The list has these Hungarian regiments:

31 Jehann Benjoask (Transylvania) Imperial Yellow and silver buttons
32 Nikolous Esterhazz Light Blue Gold
    33 Colloredomannsfeld Dark Blue Silver
34 Paul Daidovitz Red Madder Silver
37 Andreas Mariossy Bright Red Gold
48 Josef Simbschen Steel Green Gold
51 Gabriel Spleng Dark Blue Gold
52 Erherzog Franz Carl Dark Red Gold
53 Johann Jellachich Dark Red Silver
58 Peter Beaulieu (Charlburg) Black Silver
60 Ignaz Gyalai Steel Green Silver
61 Franz St. Julien Grass Green Gold
62 Theodor Worquant Grass Green Silver

Regiment No. 38 was dropped after Wagram, No. 39 was a Moravian, and No. 54 became Bohemian.

Also the Grenze reqiments were organized in areas according to when their areas were taken from the Turk, Regiments 5 and 6 were in the Warasdin Grenze, 7, 8, and 9 in the Slavonian Grenze, 12 and 13 in the Bonat, and 14 thru 17 in Siebenburg (Transylvania).
