The cover art is a relief of Gladiators fighting Samnite style. Dated to 10 BCE, but possibly a copy of an earlier relief showing in a munera from the 200's. By the time indicated, gladiator helmets had undergone major changes. The armor, belts and tapering scutum are typical of Samnite origins.
