A few years ago, a Member who served in the Kriegsmarine gave me what he said was a very special gift - it was the Hitler Youth dagger that he personally carried as a young man when he was a Hitler Youth leader. This man was my friend at the time - or so I thought, and I was very flattered with this gift. Who wouldn’t be . . . Imagine my surprise when I was looking at this wonderful gift and thinking what a great guy this veteran was to give such a rare gift to us - then I saw that it said ‘GERMANY’ on the blade! The dagger was an obvious reproduction and this friend lied to me when he said that it was the actual dagger that he had carried as a Hitler Youth leader. This person has since been put out of SHARKHUNTERS for other reasons, but integrity certainly was a major issue. We have recently been told that this guy is traveling the gun shows and the artifact shows - and he is selling ‘his own personal Hitler Youth dagger that he carried as a youth’. We are told that he has sold this ‘original’ dagger at least six times already. That is quite an accomplishment . . . . . If you meet this seemingly pleasant guy and he wants to sell you this dagger - well, you fill in the blanks. Keep your money in your pocket unless you buy this dagger with the knowledge that it is a reproduction item and not the original.
