USN Sub saved by
I.J.N. Depth-Charges

USS Lapon

by 'Shakey Jake' Jacobus

This story, apparently about USS LAPON (SS 260) comes from ‘SHAKEY JAKE’ JACOBUS (2586-1992) and he writes:

“The sub was down above the safe depth-charge levels. It withstood the pounding for a while when suddenly the sub took a list and a down angle. The Skipper kept control but rightfully got quite excited when he took a look at the depth-gauge and watched it increase.

The sub bottomed out on a ledge and the severity of the pounding literally knocked them off the shelf and to the safety of the lower sea level.”
