Many instances of submarines being ‘caught’ by fishing vessels are on record. There is even one instance of a submarine being captures by an abandoned balloon! During WW I the British Sub G-11 approached a German balloon that was hovering near the water, and its screws became enmeshed in some trailing lines from the balloon. The balloon had to be shot down to free the submarine.
