Tumbling Dice

1/72 Scale
Wars of the Roses figures

These are interesting figures from Brookhurst Hobbies. Sent for review were two jousting knights if the full regalia of the Wars of the Roses plate armor on armored horses (very similar in look to the larger 25mm Wargames/Guernsey Foundry figures) as well as cannon and crew (both Bombard and a smaller piece mounted on a wheeled trail).

The foot figures stand approximately 22mm Barrett scale and are on the stocky side. They are rather stiffly animated, yet the poses are of decent quality. Each gun crew has an officer, fully armored and holding a burning match; a lesser armored figure pushing a cannon swab home; and two other similarly attired crew loading the piece with ball and powder. The guns themselves are authentic looking. There is no flash on the figures, other than a slight sprue plug on a couple of the bases, easily removed with an exacto knife and file.

The two jousting knights have different helmets (at least the two sent for review did), one with a bascinet style and the other with the slitted kettle-style headpiece. These figures are stocky as well. The horses are much larger proportioned than the riders, my only real complaint with the figures, looking rather diminutive atop the destriers.

I would like to see more of this line. The artillery are certainly worth looking at, but I have reservations about the horsemen. Available through Brookhurst Hobbies, 12188 Brookhurst Street, Garden Grove, CA 92840. $8.50 per pack of cannon and crew, 6 horses or 12 knights.
